jackiesavicannon's Cancer Blog
April 29, 2009
I was diagnosed in 2006 and have gone through surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal treatment and most recently a full hysterectomy for prevention. I am fortunate to have a positive prognosis. I caught my cancer early and with aggressive treatment, my goal is to stay cancer free.
I teach a Yoga class for Cancer patients and their caregivers. It is a very diverse group: all ages, men, women, in treatment and post. Some people are dealing with stage 4 and terminal diagnosis.
All I can say is my goal as an educator is to provide my students with the opportunity to have peace and happiness in their present moment. I don’t pretend to understand how cancer works but I do know there are over 50 000 cases a year of people that should have died but have outlived their statistical time lines. I do believe regardless of where you are at in your journey with cancer, you are entitled to feel like you are thriving, regardless of the physical body you see looking back at you in the mirror. In the end, every minute you spend worrying about something that has not happened yet or about the past which you can not change, is a minute that you have taken away from the present. These present moments are the only absolute. That is something that no one can take away. We still have the control in how we choose to experience them. I wish all of you much peace. This is my first blog on this site but am looking forward to sharing and hearing from all of you.
Peace and strength to all,
Jackie

Jackie, I appreciate your willingness to serve as teacher and role model for cancer survivors. I would imagine you get as much out of the class as the students get from you. Welcome to our family!
